The weather is finally warming up and it's time to beautify our homes with flowers and plants.

Here are some great tips to help get you started

1.  Pull weeds from your beds and borders before they have a chance to take hold and spread.  Make sure to pull them from the root and not just cutting them at grass level.

2.  Fertilize and mulch beds and fruit trees.Make sure to turn the soil at least once a month to keep it loose and light to give your plants the best chance to break through.

3.  Make sure there is no more threat of frost before planting.  We have had a pretty unpredictable season so far, so make sure the temps will be consistently going up before planting seeds or flowers. Consider covering plants to help keep them safe if  frost does occur.

4.  Spring is the best time to start a new lawn from seed.  When you start cutting grass don't cut it to short the first few times.  Give it a chance to grow some before going short.

5.  Composting makes for a beautiful garden and is really good for the environment.

6. Keep plants hydrated. Plants are made up of 90% water so make sure they are kept moist at all times in order for them to flourish. Watering in the morning when it's cool is the best time to avoid loosing it to evapouration during the peak hot times.

7. Spacing is important and can be the key to your plants survival. Ensuring seeds are well spaced for roots to take hold and spread is important. Read the planting instructions carefully and avoid the urge to sprinkle a few more. Less is best!

These tips will help get your garden prepared for the beautiful rainbow of flowers that come with summer!
