Fun Summer Family Day Trips

There is so much fun to be had this summer! Check out these great locations to take a day trip with the whole family!

Having the kids at home for the summer can be a wonderful but also a stressful time.  Trying to keep them busy with activities and day trips makes for a lot of decisions to be made.  Here are some great day trip locations within an hour drive of Milton!

1) Kelso Beach - Who doesn't love a day at the beach.  We are very fortunate to have a beautiful beach are just a short drive away.  Enjoy picnics, swimming, hiking, biking and spotting all the beautiful birds and butterflies in the area!

 

2) African Lion Safari - Get closer than you ever imagined to majestic lions, monkeys, cheetahs, giraffes and so many more exotic animals.  Enjoy a short boat cruise, take a ride on the railway and play in their splash pad. 

 

3) Brantford Twin Valley Zoo - Learn from the zoo staff about how certain animals change as they grow, their natural habitats, and why they are important to that habitat.  This year the zoo will also be hosting “Little Rays Reptile Zoo” for the summer.  

 

4) Halton County Radial Railway - The museum displays and operates a variety of historic streetcars, radial cars and work cars, and maintains a collection of photographs, memorabilia and archival materials. The oldest rail car in the collection dates from the late 1800s.

 

5) Ontario Science Centre - Learn about the world we live in and have a "hair-raising" experience at the Ontario Science Centre.  Great exhibits geared to all ages to teach about nature, construction, space and so much more!

 

6) Terre Bleu Lavender Farm - Terre Bleu is Ontario's largest lavender farm, open during bloom season providing educational farm tours, lifestyle classes, retail store & art gallery.

 

7) White Rock Ostrich Farm - An interesting learning experience for kids & adults of all ages. On your educational tour you can view ostrich chicks at one day old (after June 15th), feed the yearlings and say hello to our Rednecks, Bluenecks & African Black adult ostriches. Our tour guides are right there to answer all of your questions and make sure you know everything there is to know about ostriches.

 

8) Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory - Situated on a 107 acre site which includes the environmental sensitive Kossuth Bog, the 25,000 square foot facility includes a 10,800 square foot indoor tropical garden featuring 1000’s of free flying butterflies from all over the world, over 100 different varieties of tropical plants, waterfalls, streams, reflecting pools, tropical finches, Chinese painted quails and red-eared slider turtles.

 

9) Bronte Creek Provincial Park - Bronte Creek Ravine, Family camping experience –from tents to large RV’s, 1.8 acre outdoor pool, Five great hiking trails that showcase the natural beauty of the park, Children’s Farm with live farm animals, Turn-of-the century Spruce Lane Farm House (c.1899)
Disc Golf Course, Excellent interpretive programs - Maple Syrup Festival in March, Ghost Walks in August, Camper Halloween and Homestead Christmas in December, Tobogganing, cross-country skiing (weather permitting)

 

10) Emerald Lake - Emerald Lake is a stunning RV and camping destination that is also great for day trips. Water Park with plenty of fun things to do, volleyball, basketball, waterslide, splash pad, water toys, picnic areas, pollution free "lake" with high and low diving boards, snack bar etc.
2 Kids playgrounds - One in water park area and one in camping area.
